White city underground sidings
Background
To allow room for the new Westfield shopping centre to be built, the existing ground-level railway sidings in Shepherd Bush had to be relocated underneath the centre. White City Depot is one of only two underground depots in London.
The sidings were also a training centre and provided staff facilities and office space.
Safety & Assurance Testing
Encompass Engineering was required to provide assurance checks and sign-off for all the new systems installed and testing and commissioning activities.
The new White City depot opened in January 2007, with 16 storage sidings for passenger trains.
